Winter Birding in Skagit County

January 26, 2020 @ 8:00 am-5:00 pm

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

January and early February are great months to see vast flocks of Snow Geese, huge congregations of Trumpeter Swans, Bald Eagles galore, and many other birds in the Skagit Valley. Whittier Johnson has birded the area for years and will take you to all of the best viewing spots.

We recommend that you make your own way up to Mount Vernon on Saturday – finding the best time to avoid I-5 and Seattle’s traffic – and spend the night. Mount Vernon has attractive lodging and restaurants, all of which you can research on your favorite travel website. (Whittier recommends the C Square and Third Street Cafe for dinner or pastries Sunday morning.) Sunday morning, meet Whittier at 8:00 a.m. Be prepared for a full day of exploring the Skagit Valley’s fields and waters. We will arrange carpooling at the co-op. Bring a scope if you have one.

If you wish to join this field trip group, email Bonnie Wood at bwood2800@nullgmail.com with your contact information before January 15, so that we can keep track of numbers. Once we know that there are enough people to mount the trip, we’ll decide on a meeting place in Mount Vernon for Sunday morning.
