Olympic Peninsula Birdfest
April 17, 2020-April 19, 2020
This festival provides participants the opportunity to view a wide variety of birds normally seen on the Olympic Peninsula. Field trips are planned for Sequim Bay, Port Angeles Harbor, Ediz Hook, Dungeness Spit, the Elwha River and at Neah Bay, as well as trips through wooded areas to view songbirds and locate owls in the evening. Boat trips to Protection Island are also planned. The North Olympic Peninsula is widely known as a great place for bird watching. The day of the Olympic BirdFest is timed to overlap wintering birds and the beginning of spring migration.
The North Olympic Peninsula is widely known as a great place for bird watching with a wide variety of bird species. Field trip locations include bays, fields, and wooded areas. The locations are part of the Olympic Loop of the Great Washington State Birding Trail and are known as Important Bird Areas (IBA).
The Dungeness River Audubon Center in Sequim will become “Bird Central” for the weekend of Friday April 17, to Sunday April 19, 2019. When you arrive we will have maps and information about the Sequim Dungeness Valley in addition to all the maps and information about the demonstrations and events offered during the festival. The River Center houses a natural history museum, and is located right on the Dungeness River.
The Sequim Chamber of Commerce and the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce can help you learn more about this spectacular area. Both websites are linked to area attractions, restaurants and B&B’s.
Scott Pearson’s keynote topic is “A Tale of Two Puffins.”
In addition to the field trips, birders may participate in presentations, workshops and a banquet. A tour explaining the Jamestown S’Klallam tribal totem poles at the Tribal Center and the Seven Cedars Casino will also be offered.
