Exploring the Capital Neighborhood with Anne Kilgannon and Bonnie Wood

April 2, 2016 @ 8:00 am-10:00 am

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In partnership with the State Capital Museum, who hosts late summer’s “Movies at the Mansion,” Black Hills Audubon Society will lead a birding walk through the historic Capital Neighborhood. The neighborhood’s age, older trees, and proximity to Capital Lake make it a good location to see native birds who live here year-round and who have adapted well to living close to people and their houses. Yet this can also be a good time of year to see visiting migrants, like warblers, swallows, and grosbeaks. At the same time, we will learn a little bit about the history of the Capital Neighborhood, including Audubon’s own forgotten heritage here.

Meet at 8:00 a.m. for coffee and muffins at the Coach House behind the State Capital Museum at 211 21st Avenue S.W. Olympia. We will explore the neighborhood’s streets, enjoying the birds, early spring gardens, and older homes’ architecture.
