VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Kathleen Snyder
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Black Hills Audubon. We are an entirely volunteer run organization although we do contract out some specialty services like legal advice, water monitoring studies, and website design. Currently we have about 100 active volunteers who lead field trips, serve on committees, build nest boxes, do outreach, and advocate for habitat preservation.
These folks are extremely valuable to us and as Volunteer Coordinator, I am always looking for new faces as well as expressing our appreciation to current volunteers. Our annual June picnic is the event where we recognize all of our dedicated volunteers and do a special shout out to honor one Volunteer of the Year. I also send out messages of thanks to these folks throughout the year. Without their efforts and talents we wouldn’t be able to function.
Every Echo has a posting of “Volunteer Opportunities” that lists some of our needs. This is surprisingly effective and it lists opportunities both big and small. My goal is to find the perfect spot for each volunteer – one that fits a person’s time availability and interests.
One need we currently have is for qualified people for Board of Director positions. We would especially love to have a Board member from Mason County. Since we now meet through Zoom, this seems more possible than it was before COVID-19. We are also anxious to find people who like working with children; we have an upcoming opportunity to program with 3rd graders in an outdoor education environment. If either of these appeals to you, please contact me at ksnyder75@nullgmail.com.
