WHAT’S YOUR “SPARK” BIRD?
Answers by Avid BHAS Birders!
Why are you interested in birds? Do folks ask if any particular bird inspired your interest? This question was posed to the monthly “Birds & Brew” gang and below is one of their answers.
Juanita Kelly, a new member of “Birds & Brew”, shared her thoughts on the subject.
“I think I have always been a birder, keeping lists even when I was young. After moving to Lacey in 2023, my love of nature led me to Nisqually Wildlife Refuge where the faithfully present Great Blue Heron eventually sparked my interest in bird photography. Herons are slow, out in the open, predictable and were an easy subject for practicing my new hobby. I will always be in search of ‘lifers’ for my lists, but now with the secondary goal of capturing them with my camera to further appreciate the beauty in in them as art.”Fun Fact: According to North American Native tribes, the Blue Heron brings messages of self-determination and self-reliance. They represent an ability to progress and evolve. The long, thin legs of the heron reflect that an individual does not need massive pillars to remain stable, but must be able to stand on one’s own.
