The Board of Directors for BHAS met via Zoom on September 3rd.
- A new outreach program for beginning birders was approved. There has been an increase in birding since the virus has made outdoor activities safer than indoor ones. BHAS will have a dedicated email to answer questions that anyone, but especially new birders, might have about bird watching, feeders, native plants, etc.
- It was reported that the Annual Dinner Committee is not supportive of holding a virtual dinner in 2021. Consequently, the Annual Dinner is cancelled for next year. Alternative fund raisers were discussed.
- Our program meetings will be provided via Zoom for as long as large, indoor gatherings are not advised.
- The Conservation Committee continues to monitor the Skoocumchuck Wind Project in Lewis County and is following up on some new research that might be important for protecting birds from wind turbines. The Committee is also following the Thurston County’s update to the Mineral Lands Ordinance and Shoreline Master Plan.
BHAS will have an entry to the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge on-line Watershed Festival at the end of September.
