The DIY field trip project is starting to wind down. Vaccination rates are up and the BHAS Board has discussed when to start offering in-person field trips again. However, we still have a ways to go and our slate of spring DIY trips is outstanding. We have scouting trips planned through the end of June. These reports will stay up on our website even as regular field trips resume. This will be a treasure trove of information for BHAS members as well as out-of-area visitors.
For April, we first had Gary Wiles send in a report on West Rocky Prairie. We are so blessed in the south sound to have these remnant prairies; the birds and flowers make a spring visit almost mandatory. Go soon and revel in the beauty they provide.
Next up is a report by Paul Hicks on a trip out to the coast – Hoquiam Sewage Treatment Ponds, Oyhut Game Range, Point Brown Jetty, and much more. It is the most complete scouting report submitted so far and will be invaluable to those of us heading to the coast for spring shorebird migration.
Bob Wadsworth will provide a report on Edmond Marsh in Dupont at the end of April. Spring birding is very productive there and the 3 mile loop around the marsh will not only produce wonderful spring migrant sightings but also provide a lovely walk through multiple natural habitats. These reports plus all previous reports are found on the bottom left portion of our website homepage.
