We are now heading into spring, arguably a birder’s favorite time of year. With the weather a little drier and warmer and the days a little longer, you might be looking for an outing with your binoculars. Here’s what our DIY scouts have reported over March:
1. Bob Wadsworth scoped out Geoduck Beach and the trails going there on Evergreen State College. Parking is free while the campus is closed for in-person classes so now is the perfect time to check it out.
2. Bruce Jacobs introduced us to his “patch” – Taylor Wetlands in Olympia (not to be confused with Theler Wetlands in Belfair). This is a close-by jaunt that you can cover in just over an hour (Green Heron anyone?).
3. Rachel Hudson will be submitting a report on another section of the Willapa Hills Trail at the end of March. With her amazing photography skills, she will introduce you to a part of Lewis County that not many of us in Thurston and Mason counties have explored.
These reports, plus all the prior ones, are accessed from our website, at the bottom of the homepage.
