Join us for the first in our new series of Community Forums where we will introduce DERT’s exciting new endeavor, the South Sound Healthy Watershed Program. The evening will begin with a brief presentation of DERT’s history & current work, our recent affiliation with Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, and an update on the Capitol Lake/Deschutes River Environmental Impact Statement. After discussing the South Sound Healthy Watershed (SSHW) Program, we will provide time for community members to ask questions and offer their insights and ideas.
The South Sound Healthy Watershed Program will expand DERT’s presence in the community, increase our volunteer base, monitor water quality and pollution sources, and create compelling story-maps that identify pollution sources, restoration opportunities, and sites of cultural and historic significance. Activities of the program include: kayak & boat patrols, a pollution prevention hotline, water quality monitoring, watershed mapping using a drone & ArcGIS software, educational forums, and other outreach events.
