FIELD TRIP TO POINT NO POINT
By Kathleen Snyder
The group that ventured out on March 11th to the Hansville area of the Kitsap Peninsula hit the weather just about perfectly. There was no rain and quite a bit of sunshine. The morning was breezy but that calmed down and we had some fabulous birds. Kyle Leader was our expert birder and found all three Scoters, Pacific and Common Loons, Double-crested, Brandt’s and Pelagic Cormorants, Marbled Murrelets, Rhinoceros Auklets, Bonaparte’s Gulls, Long-tailed Ducks – you get the picture. It was a wonderful day.
This was the first time in well over a year that the Black Hills sponsored a field trip using carpools. Everyone wore masks while riding in the cars and then shed them for the bird stops. We also made a stop at the Greenwoods Farm and Bakery in Hansville which was quite delicious. Everyone seemed to agree that our best stop was at Port Gamble where the view was amazing, birds were everywhere, and the weather was perfect.
