JANUARY SPEAKER PROGRAM

RARE BIRDS OF BILLY FRANK JR. NISQUALLY NWR

With Shep Thorp, DVM

Thursday January 12th at 7 pm via Zoom

There are many of us who attend the Wednesday bird walks at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.  It is a premier birding spot that has wonderful birds all year long.  A big reason these walks are so popular is due to Shep Thorp, our intrepid guide.  A natural leader, teacher, and bird-finder, Shep will be talking about the rare birds he has seen at Nisqually, primarily from 2008 on.

Shep is originally from Philadelphia and started bird watching with his family at the age of 7.  He moved to Washington State in 1992 after graduating from veterinary school.  In 2000, Shep moved from Eatonville to Tacoma where he and his wife, Kris, raised their children Oscar, Mallory, and Emma and many, many pets.  In 2008, Shep joined the Wednesday Walks at Nisqually being lead by Phil Kelley; eventually he became a Refuge volunteer and leader of the walks.  Currently Shep works at a veterinarian emergency clinic in Tacoma.
