Monthly Speaker Series – Enhancing Properties for Wildlife / Grant Gilmore

November 10, 2016 @ 7:00 pm-9:00 pm

Washington State is at the forefront of environmental regulations for the country. Our permitting requirements take many things into consideration when private and public development projects take place. Navigating this process is complicated and ever changing due to a myriad of agencies involved with environmental protections. This talk will shed light on the various agencies responsible for wetland protections, mitigation of critical areas, shoreline protections and endangered and listed species. In addition, a quick description of the kinds of reporting requirements for each area will be highlighted in order to show how much research, planning and oversight goes into each project. Two case studies representing projects from the private and public side will be shown in order to demonstrate the process of permitting and the steps taken for each phase. One of these case studies will include the mitigation measures associated with the Purple Martin habitat expansion at Boston Harbor.

Grant Gilmore is an Environmental Scientist and Wetland Scientist with Skillings Connolly Inc. located in Lacey Washington. Projects cover a wide range of environmental work, primarily with a focus on permitting for private and public development projects. Additional work includes wetland delineations, wildlife surveys, habitat restoration and research. Grant holds an Applied Associates in Marine Science and Technology with the Polytechnic School of Science, Bachelors of Science from the Evergreen State College with a focus on Ecology and a Professional Certificate from the University of Washington with a focus on Wetland Science and Management.
