Kayaking Budd Bay with the South Sound Estuary Association
March 26, 2016 @ 9:30 am-2:00 pm
$43.60This outing is co-sponsored by Black Hill Audubon and the South Sound Estuary Association. At once a kayak excursion and a quest for birds who frequent upper Bud Bay, we will start at Boston Harbor Marina and paddle south along the shoreline, past Burfoot Park’s Pigeon Guillemots’ bluffs, to Gull Harbor (about one hour). Gull Harbor is a beautiful protected harbor where a distinctive sand and gravel spit frames the opening. We will probably encounter salt-water waterfowl like scoters, Buffleheads, and others. Belted Kingfishers will rattle from the trees, and seals may surface nearby to see what we’re up to.
Meet at 9:45 am at the Boston Harbor Marina. For those renting kayaks plan to be at the marina by 9:30 so you have time before the 10:00 start of the outing. The cost for the kayak rental is $43.60.
Safety Guidelines
Plan to bring or rent a kayak. A kayak with cockpits with hatch covers is recommended. Dress warmly (no cotton) and have good raingear. Many paddlers prefer wearing a wetsuit or dry suit. Wear footwear that can get wet, sandals or rubber boots. March weather can be cool. The trip will be canceled if conditions are windy. Bring water and food as needed.
There is a limit of 20 people for this trip. Since we are drawing participants from two organizations please contact either Bonnie Wood at bwood2800@nullgmail.com or kenguza@nullyahoo.com so that we can track signups. Contact either of us if you have questions.
