Field Trip to Scatter Creek WMA

March 26, 2022 @ 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Saturday, March 26, 2022, 9 AM to noon

Leader: Grace Thornton

Description and Targets: This will be a beginner-friendly outing. We will be looking for winter songbirds and early spring migrants.

Trail information:

The walk is through a mix of prairie and woods with some riparian habitat along Scatter Creek. There is a pit toilet in the parking lot.

The trail is well defined and has mild ups and downs.

Directions:   Meet at the Scatter Creek WMA at 180th SW and Guava St. SW

Other information:

A Discover Pass is required for parking.  The trail is not wheel-chair accessible.

Bring: Binoculars and a field guide if you want one. Merlin Bird ID is a great phone app for identifying birds. I also suggest a hands-free pack for water, snacks, and personal items.

Dress for the conditions and for a slow walking pace; dull natural fabrics are more bird-friendly than bright synthetics. Layers are your friend!
