February Speaker – CASUAL BIRDING
February 9, 2023 @ 7:00 pm-8:30 pm
SPEAKER PROGRAM
CASUAL BIRDING – A PRACTICE OF BEING IN NATURE
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 9th 7 PM VIA ZOOM
With Faraaz Abdool
Casual birding goes by various labels, but all underpin a common ethic: passive observation of birds. By undertaking this practice, we can embrace experiences which would have bypassed us entirely under other circumstances. Casual birding is merely the introduction – a gateway as some suggest – to a deeper and more expansive connection with nature. Once experienced, it is difficult to interact with the natural world in any other way. Join Faraaz as he elaborates on these concepts and more. We shall delve into the preparation process, how can one become truly open and receptive to learning from birds and nature, what constitutes the casual in casual birding, some of his experiences, and lessons learned along the way.
Faraaz Abdool is a wildlife photographer, author, speaker, birding guide, and environmental advocate from Trinidad & Tobago. His photographs and writings have been widely published both digitally and in print. His first book, Casual Birding in Trinidad & Tobago, was released in 2020 and received widespread praise. He has delivered talks to various birding clubs and Audubon chapters across the US on topics ranging from birding in T&T to the philosophy of Casual Birding. He has appeared on radio shows and podcasts in various countries; interviews with him have been published in Audubon Magazine and all major national newspapers in Trinidad & Tobago.
