Birding by Ear at Scatter Creek Field Trip

June 6, 2022 @ 6:30 am-10:30 am

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Scatter Creek Recreation Area, June 4th and 6th, 6:30-10:30

Paul Hicks will lead two field trips that focus on “birding by ear”: recognizing birds by voice rather than identifying by appearance. “Birding by ear opens a whole new world of awareness and enjoyment of the birdlife that’s all around us,” says Paul. Whether you want to expand your horizons or hone your identification skills, this is sure to be an informative and delightful (and challenging) experience.

Two outings are offered, one for people who work during the week, the other for those who don’t.

Normally a couple hours of classroom instruction precedes the field trip, but this year the instruction will happen both during the outing and also via advance reading and preparation (optional).

Dates: Saturday, June 4 (for M-F students and working people), and Monday, June 6 (for those not working)

Time: 6:30 to 10:30am (or whenever people need to leave)

Location: Scatter Creek Recreation Area, access at Guava St x 180th Ave SE (north of Grand Mound). Discover Pass required.

Conditions: ~1.5-mile loop trail on mostly flat terrain; one stretch of tall, moist grass

RSVP to Paul Hicks by June 2: paulhicks7373@nullgmail.com . Include your cell number and indicate which date you’re available. He will confirm your date by June 3:

__ Saturday, June 4       __ Monday, June 6        __ Either date

Limit: 10 per trip

Sign up early to reserve a spot and to receive Paul’s “pre-assignments” to prepare (optional, in lieu of classtime), list of birds we’ll encounter, what to bring, and other details.
