Start 2020 off by committing to learn more about birdlife in the great northwest!
This course emphasizes improving bird identification skills. Major topics include: factors used to identify birds, birding tools (optics and guides), birding terminology, bird biology and taxonomy and classification as it relates to identification. This class is appropriate for all those who are new to birding but also beneficial to those who wish to improve their skills. The course is popular; several have taken it more than once.
Dr. Scott Mills is a professional biologist with over 55 years of birding experience throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. He has previously taught a number of beginning and advanced birding classes, for us and Seattle Audubon. Since moving from Tucson, Arizona in 1999, he has done bird surveys at sea on NOAA ships and has been a trip leader for Westport Seabirds.
The course will run for five Saturdays from February 8th to March 7th from 9am to 11am at the Visitors Center at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Two Sunday field trips are included whose dates will be determined at the first class. Cost is $75.00/ $70.00 for BHAS members. Registration is required, and payment made prior to the first session.
