All Day Field Trip to the Coast

August 29, 2023 @ 7:15 am-5:00 pm

MEETING PLACE:  Mud Bay Park & Ride to form carpools

DESTINATIONS:  Hoquiam Sewage Treatment Ponds, Bottle Beach, Westport, Tokeland

LEADERS:  Paul Hicks and Kathleen Snyder

REGISTRATION:  This trip will be limited to 4 cars with 4 occupants each.  Please register with Kathleen at ksnyder75@nullgmail.com and indicate if you can drive.  Those who don’t drive will contribute money for gas.  Vehicles will need a Discover Pass.

DESCRIPTION:  It is south-bound migration time at the coast!  We will explore hotspots between Tokeland and Hoquiam and expect to see adult and juvenile shorebirds refueling and moving through.  This is mostly a drive, park, and bird type of day although there will be some walking.  Bottle Beach requires boots that can get muddy.  Bring lunch, water, snacks, and a garbage bag if you switch out your boots.  If you have a scope, please bring it.  If time allows, we will expand the day to include Twin Harbors and Westhaven State Parks, North Cove, or Brady Loop.

BHAS has loaner binoculars and a spotting scope for our field trips.  If you wish to borrow any, please contact us at 4info@nullblackhills-audubon.org a few days ahead of the trip.
