Accessible Birding Trip – Nisqually NWR
October 24, 2021 @ 9:00 am-11:00 am
Date: Sunday, 24 October 2021
Start/End: 9-11 AM
As part of Birdability Week we are excited to bring you an accessible bird outing to Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Our mission is to share the joys of birding with people experiencing a disability and to ensure birding is accessible for everyone.
Accessibility: There are accessible parking spaces and 5 van accessible parking spaces. There is an accessible restroom at the visitor center and an ADA portable toilet about ½ mile down the trail. Part of the trail is paved and the other part is wooden boardwalk; both are flat. More information is available at https://www.fws.gov/refuge/billy_frank_jr_nisqually/
Location: Meet at the overlook area in the visitor center. Look for people with scopes and binoculars.
Description: People do not have to be “birders” to join and beginning birders are welcome. This is a family-friendly event. No pets are allowed at the refuge. Please check the weather and dress appropriately in warm layers. Bring binoculars if you have them. We will have some extra binoculars for participants to use.
The Twin Barns Loop trail walk starts from the visitor center. This level, mile-long boardwalk passes through woodlands, grasslands, and freshwater marshes, past the Twin Barns and an observation platform, ending back where it starts at the Visitor Center.
