- Most of the meeting was spent on a grant being offered by the National Science Foundation and the Paul G Allen Family Foundation. Black Hills Audubon has been asked by Jim Mathieu, the hydrologist whom we have hired many times for other projects, to be a Conservation Partner for a grant proposal. As such, we would receive and distribute the grant funds over the two year time period of the grant. The proposal is to take ten years of hydrology data collected on West Rocky Prairie in support of Oregon Spotted Frog habitat and to devise a model for hydrologic conservation actions that will increase frog habitat both at West Rocky Prairie and elsewhere. Receiving these funds will change our tax return situation and require that we hire a tax accountant. The grant proposal will provide money for that purpose. After a lengthy discussion, the Board unanimously approved the proposal.
- Some of our officers and committee chairs had some phishing activity on their BHAS alias email accounts. We discussed how to prevent being taken in by email scams.
- BHAS attended two events in September where we had materials and volunteers to interact with the public. We haven’t done this since COVID-19 struck in 2020.
- A new book club is forming with the first Zoom meeting scheduled for November 16th, 2022
- Kim reported that during the period of January through May of 2022, the Timberland Library system checked out our donated birding backpacks 121 times (even with our very wet spring).
