Jen is clearly rocking the 2020 “Urban Grunge” birdwatching style on a balmy, clear winter day while out looking for Hooded Mergansers near Olympia’s waterfront. The socks that match the cozy purple cowl neck contrast with her well-worn, self-described “tattered” fingerless gloves. She says the gloves allow her to adjust her binoculars AND do eBird checklists on her phone. On a super cold day she packs hand warmers which she generously shares (lucky me). The blue parka and the big-cuffed pants scream “hip” and highlight the unusual choice of clogs….only worn for short jaunts in the urban jungle of Olympia. And the mask, well, 2021 can’t get here soon enough. . . Her birding super power is her keen ears and eyes that come with years of experience.
