Othello Sandhill Crane Festival
March 22-March 24
Othello Sandhill Crane Festival Announces the 26th Annual Sandhill Crane Festival.
The theme for 2024: Wingtip to Wingtip: A Flourish of Feathers
With the celebration of the spring migration of the Sandhill Cranes, the festival offers a variety of events for the whole family to enjoy and learn. Online registration opens on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 8:00 AM. The registration link will be available on the website and Facebook page.
Some tours sell out quickly, so register early!
The Festival’s location is at the Othello Church of the Nazarene, located at 835 S 10th Ave, Othello, Washington and next door at McFarland Middle School.
Guided tours to view the Festival’s namesake, the Sandhill Crane, in the wild and tours highlighting the unique geology of eastern Washington are mainstays of the Festival each year.
On Saturday, this year’s festival will feature 22 presentations on a variety of Pacific and Inland Northwest wildlife, both migratory and year-round residents. The Ice Age Floods, the geology of Central Washington and other birding and wildlife topics, are other highlights of the 2024 Festival.
Friday night’s presentation will feature the WSU Raptor club; this lecture is free to attend and open to all.
On Saturday, the Children’s Committee will have a variety of activities for kids from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Some of these activities include faux binoculars to use for “birding” in the gym by finding pictures of various birds, origami folded crane mobiles, mask making and many other activities. As always, we will have a free photo booth to take your picture with a digitized Sandhill Crane in the background which you can take home as a souvenir.
