Kennedy Creek Field Trip

June 18, 2022 @ 8:00 am-12:00 pm

Date: Saturday June 18, 2022

Time: 8 am

Directions: From Olympia take Highway 101 towards Shelton. Take a left onto the Old Olympic Highway about 5 miles from the junction. Go just past the Mason County line. There is plenty of parking along Old Olympic Highway near the orange gate at the head of the logging road.

Information: Kennedy Creek Salmon Trail has a variety of habitats to explore. Clear-cut regrowth, open grasslands, and forested areas offer a variety of birds. Walk in from Old Olympic Highway through the clear-cut area towards the woodland. Expect to see plenty of sparrows, Common Yellowthroat, flycatchers and perhaps a grosbeak or tanager. The logging road is about 1 mile to the small trail system in the woodlands along Kennedy Creek. Here we will hear and hopefully see Pacific Wren, Steller’s Jay, and Brown Creepers.

There are no restroom facilities in the area. The trail is easy but not well maintained. Expect uneven terrain and mud if rainy.
