A Wildlife Tracking Journey: Willapa and Beyond

The fun starts on March 8 at the Salt Hotel and Pub in Ilwaco, Washington at 6:30 pm. Kristi Freese’s presentation wlll cover the basics of how to learn the skill of tracking.
Meet at 8 am the next morning, March 9, at Willapa National Wildlife Refuge, in the northern-most parking lot on Stackpole Road. A Washington State Discover Pass is required for parking. Kristi will take participants along the shoreline of Willapa Bay at Leadbetter Point to identify tracks of birds and mammals, such as Sanderlings, Great Blue Herons, racoons, deer and many more. The walk will take about two hours and will be an easy two-three miles, though the terrain is mostly sand path and may be uneven and wet.
Bring your favorite binoculars: there will be birding opportunities. Dress for coastal weather conditions.
