Rally Opposing Clearcutting
September 6, 2022 @ 8:30 am-12:00 pm
Invitation to a Rally Opposing Clearcutting of Washington’s Legacy Forests
You are invited to a rally in opposition to the clearcutting of Washington’s last remaining mature legacy forests (generally pre-1945, and older). This event will be on Tuesday, September 6, at 8:30 AM in front of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Olympia (1111 Washington St SE, Olympia, WA 98504).
Groups from all over WA are working to stop legacy forests from being clearcut on state lands. This rally provides a chance for us to advocate to DNR that we want our forests to be managed for climate change and biodiversity, not just for timber profits. The State Supreme Court just ruled that the DNR can manage public lands for multiple uses to serve all the people of WA but are not limited to timber harvesting only. The time is now to remind the DNR that “Washington forests are for all the people!” At the rally we will be sharing the Call to Action on legacy forests — co-signed by Black Hills Audubon and many other groups — which lays out seven recommended changes for DNR to make.
