Field Trip to Woodard Bay
February 12, 2022 @ 9:00 am-11:00 am
Saturday, February 12, 9 to 11am
Leader:Mary Birchem
Description and Targets: This will be a beginner-friendly outing. We will be looking for winter songbirds, woodpeckers, and anything else with feathers!
Meeting place: Woodard Bay Conservation Area. Discovery Pass required. Look for people with binoculars.
Trail information: This field trip is primarily for beginning and intermediate birders. Dress warmly and for the day’s weather. Be prepared to walk an approximately ½ mile paved road with gentle hills. If desired, there is also a path through the forest that consists mostly of conifers. We will see and hear the usual winter resident birds as well as overwintering ducks, other water birds and seals.
Bathroom: There is a vault toilet at the trail terminus.
Bring: Binoculars, a scope if you have one, and a field guide if you want one. Merlin Bird ID is a great phone app for identifying birds. I also suggest a hands-free pack for water, snacks, and personal items.
COVID PRECAUTIONS:
- Participants agree to follow current Washington Phase Covid-19 guidance. They must stay home if they have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, or new loss of taste or smell.
- We are unable to accommodate unvaccinated participants.
- Social distancing of 6 feet, except within family pod, wiCovid vaccinations of attendees are strongly encouraged.
- Social distancing of 6 feet, except within family pod, wll be maintained.
- No sharing of binoculars, except within family pod.
Dress for the conditions and for a slow walking pace; dull natural fabrics are more bird-friendly than bright synthetics. Layers are your friend!
Weather cancellation: Rotten weather will cancel this outing. Those who RSVP will be contacted by 7 am via text or email in case of cancellation.
