Birding Klamath Basin with Hank and Helen Henry
May 26, 2017-May 29, 2017
This is an overnight trip during Memorial Day weekend to one of the Northwest’s birding hotspots – the Klamath Falls, Oregon area, including Upper Klamath Lake environs and Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge on the Oregon/California state line. The trip is open to birders of all skill levels who would enjoy seeing waterfowl and woodland birds. We will drive to Klamath Lake viewing spots and walk in woodlands on easy terrain or trails, less than two miles. We visited this area last year mid-April and saw a large variety of species. Weather in southern Oregon east of the Cascades at the end of May should be warm and dry. Since Klamath Falls is approximately a seven-hour drive, you would need to leave on Friday and return on Monday, to take advantage of the full weekend of birding. Make your own plans for lodging; there is a variety of lodging and camping in the area. (See Trip Advisor or Expedia.) We will most likely be camping at the KOA in town. Shared housing and carpooling can be arranged by participants. Email Helen & Hank Henry hh.henry@nullcomcast.net if interested.
