Morse Preserve

May 11, 2016 @ 7:00 am-1:00 pm

Organized with the assistance of the Tahoma Audubon Society and resident caretaker, this field trip is the first that Black Hills Audubon has taken to the Morse Wildlife Preserve since it opened to limited access. The Morse Wildlife Preserve in Graham, Washington was established by a donation of land from Lloyd and Maxine Morse in 1995. It is situated at the headwaters of the north fork of Muck Creek and consists of various habitats on 98 acres including conifer forest, wetlands, oak savanna and prairie. Despite the size of the preserve, the nature trails, including recently constructed boardwalks and an observation tower, are limited and easy to walk. A variety of spring-bird arrivals, consistent with the habitat mosaic, should be seen. We may also be able to visit a nearby annexed preserve if time and access are available.
Birders with all levels of experience are welcome but there is a limit of 12 people. We will meet at the east side of the parking lot behind Lowe’s at the corner of Yelm Highway and Corporate Center Drive in Lacey at 7 a.m. Drive into this parking lot from either College Avenue or Corporate Center Drive, off Yelm Highway.
Bring binoculars and light snack food and water if you wish. There may still be some residual wet areas to walk through at the preserve so it would be advisable to bring boots with you. By all means dress appropriately for the weather. For more information and to sign up contact Joe Zabransky at joseph.zabransky@nullyahoo.com or call 360-438-5784.
