On March 1, 2008, a special award for outstanding educational achievements was presented from BHAS to Tom Schooley and Tim Sweeney for their Birdwise Magazine, which they created.   Thanks to Tom and Tim for their successful educational efforts!!

We were sad to see that the last episode of Birdwise was December 2007.  Blackhills Audubon extends its heartfelt appreciation to Tim and Tom for all their good efforts to share information about local bird and habitat.

Independently produced by the host, Tom Schooley, and producer Tim Sweeney, the show was taped at TCTV studios in Olympia and used field video from a variety of sources, but primarily video taken by Tom Schooley and Tim Sweeney. 

Birdwise featured:

• A bird of the month,

• Educational components prepared by Professor Burt Guttman from The Evergreen State College,

• Phil Kelley, who conducts a walk at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge every Thursday morning, was a regular guest,

• Calendar prepared and presented by Sheila McCartan with the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge,

• Stories on citizen science, including the blue bird school project and projects managed by the Nisqually Nature Center.

• Almost every month we also showed a birding site.
