What is the For the Birds Campaign?

“Over increasingly large areas of the United States, spring now comes unheralded by the return of the birds, and the early mornings are strangely silent where once they were filled with the beauty of bird song.”

The Goal:

To get 500 Thurston, Lewis, and Mason county residents to be “For the Birds!”!

What We Are Asking:

That you make 10 points worth of changes in your yard or home this year. Each change will help birds weather climate change or help slow down the rate of climate change.

What kinds of changes?

We have a long list of possibilities for you. Changes can include: planting more native plants, leaving up a snag, putting in a rain barrel, changing over to LED lightbulbs, putting weather stripping under your doors, etc.

I don’t know how to do that!

We have lots and lots of resources to help you figure out what to do! Need a recipe for biodegradable house cleaners? It’s there! Need to know what makes a good birdhouse? It’s there!

What do I get out of it?

  • The satisfaction of knowing that you are doing your part to help our environment.
  • The great feeling that comes from being part of a common goal and working
    with others.
  • A nifty bumper sticker or window decal!
  • An invitation to a “Thank you!” picnic next summer.

How do I sign up?

It’s easy, sign up online right here.
