February 2019

Bird Walk at Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.

February 20 @ 8:00 am-12:00 pm
|Recurring Events (See all)

An event every week that begins at 8:00am on Wednesday, repeating until October 30, 2019

Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 100 Brown Farm Rd NE
Olympia, WA 98516 United States
+ Google Map

Join Phil Kelley to see the birds and other wildlife who inhabit the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.  When winter settles in at the Refuge, waterfowl of all kinds come to spend the season, visit, feed, and rest.  All too soon another spring will roll around and many of these overwintering waterfowl will head north again.  In many ways, winter is the richest season at the Refuge, and few know the Refuge as intimately as Phil Kelley. The Refuge charges at $3.00 entrance fee, which is waived if you have a Golden Eagle Pass, federal interagency pass, or other applicable pass.

Birding Eagle’s Pride Golf Course

February 21 @ 8:00 am-12:00 pm
|Recurring Events (See all)
An event every month that begins at 8:00 AM on the 3rd Thusday of the month.
Eagle’s Pride Golf Course, Exit 116 (Mounts Road) WA United States + Google Map

During the summer, Eagle Pride Golf Course’s ponds, thick, diverse habitat, and location only one-half mile from Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge make it a great place to spot many bird species, especially in these busiest months of the birding year. Five swallow species abound and nest at the course, for example, and over 70 species of birds have been documented in the last couple of years. Meet at the driving range parking spaces. Take exit 116 off I-5N. Turn north off the ramp and then right into the golf course. The driving range access road, a narrow gravel road, is an immediate left, or you can park in the main lot and easily walk up to the driving range. As always, dress for the weather and bring water and snacks as needed. If you have questions, contact David Wienecke at david.l.wienecke.naf@mail.mil or call his office phone 253-964-0341.
